Yanks RV Resort, Greenfield, California

When the Yanks Air Museum staff came to us and asked us to create a web site for their non-existent RV resort, we had to scratch our head for a while.  However, the result and the resort to come are quite impressive. The site contains few actual photos of the resort, but the information provided to us by Yanks is very robust.

Check out the Yanks RV Resort and see for yourself.  They have hundreds of links to activities in the Monterey and Salinas, California areas. While the resort will not open until 2013, you can use the Things to Do link today to find lots to do in the area. Check the site today and come back frequently as new information is posted each week.  And it will be fun to join us see the resort and the web site come alive.

Welcome to Yanks RV Resort.

How is USAMotorHost different from other web design companies?

1. Our primary business is "onsite web design". Our target clients are RV parks, wineries, ranches, farms or any business that has a safe and pleasant place for us to park our motor home. We come to your location and within a few days, you will have your new web site up and running.

2. We only charge our service "by the minute"! No deposits, no upfront investment, no minimums, no early termination fees. Only quality products that you see and approve before we bill you. It is easy; try us out and get a quality site or it costs you nothing!

3. We do everything. We start with an interview with you and your staff. We take photos, write copy (content), create logos, web design themes, web pages, add SEO content, submit your site to Google and Yahoo, host the site, maintain the site and solve all problems.

4. We support everything. One toll-free number to call to reach someone you have met and worked with. Any problem you have, you email or call us.

5. Your web site belongs to you. Whether you or we supplied the photos, content, graphics or web programming, it all belongs to you. You will always have the username and password to access everything on your site. At anytime that are disappointed by our service, we will fix it or you can take your site to any other designer. Easy in, easy out.

6. We actively review your site. Weekly, we review your site for any problems and recommend changes. And changes are made quickly. A new phone number or address? The change is made in minutes. No complicated process, just send an email and we make small changes instantly or begin work on major revisions. And we only bill for minutes used, not by quarter of half-hour.

7. We take care of your web site so you can run business!!!

Who Owns Your Web Site Content?

We have taken over the design of many websites. We don't solicit projects from companies who are happy with the sites and its current designers. Our projects have come from those whose sites are out-dated and their current designers are either unable or unwilling to update them. When we take control of a site, we need the current content.

So, who owns it, the company or the designers? For all of our clients, they own everything. We may write the content, take the photos and create the graphics. But 100% of that belongs to them. We even have an archive of 40,000 photos that we have taken across the USA and if we use these photos on their site, we give them the use of the photo.

Now, what about over design companies? Well, while we suppose that the majority of designers give their clients all rights, we have certainly had our share of problems in obtaining content from existing sites. All we need to obtain the content is the Username and Password to the hosted site. Then in minutes we can download the content and begin our update. Without it, we have had to a) wait for the content to be sent to us. We have lost time and sometimes not all content was sent. b) "Scrape the content" from the site, but you can't obtain databases and other protected content. c) Had our new design held hostage, waiting for the previous designer to "point to the new site (DNS)".

We suggest to all companies with web sites: Obtain the Username and Password for your hosted site. At start up and annually we send this information to our clients. Get yours and keep it safe; you never know when you might need it.

We avoid irritating web pages

One of our major web design philosophies is to NOT irritate your visitors.  Your pages should have an impact because of the content, not with distracting techniques.  We believe the following popular methods will irritate your visitors and cause them to leave your site.

1. Advertisements in general.  Not ads for what you are selling, but ads from other sites. Sure, you can earn a few dollars from visitors clicking through your site, but when ads dominate your site, visitors will leave.

2. Advertisements from others or from you, that pop up and cover over the content a visitor was reading.

3. Automated slide shows that do not allow you to manually control the pace. Okay, so your site starts with a nice photo or graphic of your product or service.  Then, it starts rotating through an album of more photos. When a visitor sees something they like, can they stop the slide show.  If not, your site is frustrating and many will click you off.

4. Flashing or moving graphics that never stop.  You can get someones attention by by flashing or moving, but it should stop quickly. To continue while they are reading other content is just plain irritating!

5. Hard to find Contact Information.  People are getting use to finding their own information or emailing you for details.  But, many want to talk to a real person.  If you don't post a phone number, you will lose many customers.

6. Difficult to read text.  To be read quickly fonts should not be fancy.  Times Roman and Arial are good choices for easy reading.  And stay away from massive text of light words on a dark background.  This is okay for short phrases or captions, but not for you main content.  Speaking of content, keep words simple and sentences are short and direct as possible.

7. No prices, estimate or range of prices.  Gone are the days when most customers will call you for a price. There are too many web sites that post prices today, for you to attract people without any idea of what you are charging.  At a minimum post a range of prices.  For example, our web site services can range from $10.00 to $10,000!  Wow, what a range!  We charge our services by the minute ($2 per minute) and service under 5 minutes is not charged. So, your minimum is $10.00. That maximum is really unlimited.

A better estimate is that a starter web site with a Home Page and 4 linked pages, each with static content and pages that fill a screen (not scrolling) might cost around $1,200.00.  That would depend on the client knowing what they want to exhibit, having photos, graphics and written content ready to publish.  We design pages, write content, take photos, create graphics and videos.  If we have to interview the client and create all content from scratch, it obviously takes more minutes.  If the content is ready and we are just designing and publishing, it would take less time.

Bottom line is that we create clean, attractive web pages. They have an immediate impact on your visitors without driving them crazy.

Web Sites for Smart Phones

Every day a larger percentage of web site accesses are from Smart Phones.  Is your site optimized for mobile users?  Here is BigRigBible.com and how it looks on a smart phone without optimization.

The page looks good although the fonts are small.  Click on Free Tour and Take a Tour and you get the Table of Contents.

Now things are getting tough. You must be able to read and click on links that are very small.

A good presentation of the Table of Contents for a mobile device would be:

This is a site optimized for mobile users.  Isn't it funny how history repeats itself.  Now, because of small screen sizes, we are presenting text only, no graphics or photos, just like we did 35 years ago!

But the display is now easy to read and you can "click" on your links with much more accuracy.

If you want to modify your site to handle mobile devices, send us an email at WebDesign@USAMotorHost.com
